Cock Up - Congestion Charging - Residents Discount
A week before my resident's discount expired 18th January 2010 I received a renewal form from Congestion Charge London dated about a month before enclosing my Congestion Charge renewal application form.
I immediately got the required papers together and sent them first class recorded delivery on 11th January 2010. I have a Royal Mail receipt showing it was delivered on 14th January 2010. As of today (3rd February 2010) I had not received my confirmation of renewal and in the meantime have been paying £40 (5 days full fees - because you can't get a refund unless you pay for a full week) Last week I telephoned TFL and asked what was happening - I was told that it takes 10 working days to process and that I should have it by Friday 29th January.
This never happened so I telephoned today explaining that I had sent the form in and that they signed for it on 14th January. I was told it wasn't on the system which was surprising as there was a ten working day turnaround. I was told I would have to fill an new application form and they would send it to me.
I said why don't they look for the form as it is in their office! The chap said that's all they could do. I asked to speak to a supervisor who finally admitted that they had a processing backlog and that was the problem! I then asked here if they had a processing backlog would me sending in another application form as I was originally told make the position worse as they would have even more forms to process. The supervisor sheepishly agreed that it would and said my application would be expedited!
